About

Transportation is vital to New Jersey…

…connecting our communities, supporting our economy, and enhancing the quality of life for our residents. With a population of over nine million people and a bustling economy, efficient and reliable transportation systems are essential for daily commutes, commercial activities, and access to important services.

KEEP IT MOVING NJ!, the 2050 New Jersey long-range transportation plan, is a forward-thinking initiative to consider current challenges and anticipate future needs, ensuring that our transportation infrastructure remains robust and resilient. By developing this plan, we aim to create a sustainable and adaptable transportation network that promotes safety, reduces congestion, supports economic growth, and improves the overall well-being of our citizens for decades to come.

The 2050 New Jersey long-range transportation plan is being developed by the New Jersey Department of Transportation and NJ TRANSIT. The plan will cover all modes of transportation in New Jersey including public transportation, pedestrians, cyclists, rail, vehicles, waterways, and aviation.

KEEP IT MOVING NJ! will provide a snapshot of where we are now and where we are going; prepare vision, goals and objectives for the movement of goods and people throughout the state; describe how the plan aligns with other local, state, and federal policies; and summarize how we will measure progress on meeting our goals.

The plan will look 25 years into the future and consider the unique characteristics of the state. KEEP IT MOVING NJ! will focus on enhancing public transportation, improving road infrastructure, and expanding active transportation networks.

KEEP IT MOVING NJ! will be shaped by input from a wide range of transportation users including the public, elected officials, counties and municipalities, tribal nations, business communities and agency partners. Over the course of the plan development there will be many opportunities, in-person and online, to provide input on transportation needs and experiences and feedback on plan recommendations.
